Almost 10 months
The girls will be 10 months old on the 20th and I have already booked the banquet room for their 1st birthday party. So mark your calenders for the 20th of December....the party is on. I am still very worried about exposing them to all the people and germs, but I know I can trust our friends and family to not come to the party if they are sick or have been around sick people. Don't worry I will have plenty of sanitizer, gloves, masks and gowns if needed! We had a great weekend at home and each day the girls bring more and more joy to our home. Tiny K was here on Wednesday and was very pleased with Rylee's willingness to have a bottle in her mouth. She will chew and suck a little bit, but just doesn't want to drink much. We were given the okay to try some crackers, puffs, etc. They recommended the chicken/biscuit crackers because of all the flavor so that way they will move it around their mouth and really start sucking on them. I know I sure like them! We have been pretty relaxed with Rylee's belly time so we were reminded that we should be putting her on her belly several times a day so she can build up some upper arm strength. We have ENT appointments at CMH on Wednesday morning so I am anxious to see what the doctor has to say about both girls. We are still battling allergies in our house with the girls. Rylee is sometimes having to be suctioned every few minutes and we pray every time that we don't suction up blood from all the suctioning.

Oh no she is crawling! Good report with Rylee.
We took Rylee to her special care appointment today at CMH and she got a good report. She weighed in at 15 lb 5 oz. We didn't see our primary doctor as she was in a conference, but we did see one of her regular doctors that she had in the NICU at CMH. She sure put on a show for all the nurses, doctors, and staff in the clinic. She was all smiles and very interactive with everyone that came into the room. The doctor was impressed that she is sitting unassisted and how social she is. We are going to start weaning her oxygen at night and hopefully get rid of it when we go back in 6 weeks. They want us back in 6 weeks due to the cold and flu season so they can keep a close watch over her. I would rather keep her out of the hospital, but the doctor thought she needed to come back. She got some blood work today and it didn't come to easy. It brought back some horrible memories from her NICU days. The nurses would spend hours and hours just trying to get blood or an IV in. It took a good 15 minutes for them to get what they needed today and I was glad nurse T was there to hold Rylee down. I don't think I could have done it without losing it. Seeing all the babies in the special care clinic on ventilators was a reminder on how blessed we are that we have two miracles at home. We go back to CMH on 10/21 for Rylee and Jordan's ENT appointments. Tiny K will be here on Wednesday to check out how our feedings are going. Yes, Jordan is officially crawling and oh my this is going to be some work keeping up with her. She has passed my goal for her to be crawling by her first birthday. Her adjusted age is just a little over 6 months so she is doing so awesome with her developmental milestones. I think Rylee is going to go from sitting to walking. She doesn't seem to interested in rolling over, scooting, or crawling. She will sit for several minutes without taking a tumble. Have a good week.

Short post
This is going to be a quick post as Jordan is on my lap and trying to type along with me. She had a busy week with her hearing test, blood work, and flu shot. The blood work came back great and no concerns. Jordan weighed in at 16 lb 1 oz and was 25 inches long. Rylee has an appointment at CMH with her special care doctor and I am anxious to see what she has to say. We haven't seen this doctor since July and I am sure she will be shocked with how good she is doing. She just took 5 ml from a bottle for me tonight and that made me very happy. She is starting to squeak a little more now that she isn't so sick with her allergies. We are getting along just fine with no nurse on Saturday nights and she is sleeping really good. Daddy usually stays up until 3 or 4 in the morning and then I take over from there. Have a good week.

Hearing test
I am sure there are several people wanting to see how Jordan's hearing test went yesterday. Unfortunately she didn't show any waves in her left ear. Her right ear tested out just fine. We are now going to be taking her with us when we go to Rylee's ENT (ear, nose, and throat) appointment on 10/21/09. Hopefully she may just needs some tubes to clear out some fluid that might be causing her the problems. It is very common for extreme preemies to have hearing loss so it is not a big surprise to us. After this appointment it really hit me that our little girls are going through so much because of their early arrival. I just wish we didn't have to worry everyday about what is going to be wrong with them and how we can keep them safe from all the illnesses out there. I really just want to be a normal family that doesn't have to worry about everything. We are really starting to get cabin fever with the girls and this is just the beginning of the cold and flu season. We have only taken the girls out with us together two times and I can't wait for the day we can just leave our house as one big happy family. I know I am sounding a little down, but it is just very frustrating. I spend hours on the phone with our medical supply company, with doctors, nurses, pharmacies, etc and it is starting to get to me. There is not a day that goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars that these two miracles are with us and are the happies babies out there. I will end this post with on a positive note: I live by this quote daily "Prayers are answered, miracles happen, dreams do come true."

6 months adjusted age
Today is the girls' six month adjusted birthday. We have had a horrible week with allergies. Last weekend we had to suction Rylee almost every 10 minutes because her allergies were really acting up. She ended up getting an irritated airway and we started suctioning up blood by Monday. This had us a bit concerned so I called Rylee's special care doctor and she wanted us to try to only suction every 2 hours. This was nearly impossible as Rylee had so much stuff coming up. She started puking from gagging and coughing so much and her oxygen levels went down some. She is much better now that she has some Zyrtec and Mucinex. Her oxygen level is just a little down from where she had been satting on her own. We are still having to suction alot more than normal, but at least she doesn't have any blood. Not only is she dealing with allergies, she now has two bottom teeth. I am not sure how long she has had them, but I just noticed them last night. She was pretty fussy this week and we just thought it was because she was miserable with allergies. We will hopefully keep her healthy until we go to CMH on the 12th for her routine check up. Jordan has been having some trouble with her allergies too, but not nearly as bad as Rylee's. She has another hearing test on Tuesday so pray she passes so we will have one less thing to worry about. She is doing really good at attempting to crawl. She can get across the room in no time. I have to take her to Lawrence on Friday to get her flu shot and some routine blood work so she has a busy week. We have officially closed our house to all kids. That includes kids 18 and under. There has been too many cold and flu's going around the school system so we want to take every precaution we can. I know this is going to be hard for several people, but we really want to keep these girls healthy as can be.
